GDS Storefront Estimating

Instructions for fixing the Shopdrawing Tool in Windows Vista.

If you receive a "Run Time Error 339" message when you click the Yellow Ruler tool to open the shopdrawing window in v14.1, follow these steps to correct the problem.

  1. You will first need to turn off the "User Account Control" setting in the User Settings window of the Control Panel. Click Start, then Control Panel, then User Accounts to open this window.
  2. Click the "Turn User Account Control on or off" link and uncheck the box you see below, then click OK.
  3. You will be prompted to reboot your computer. After doing this, click on Start, then type the word Command in the Start Search box at the bottom of the Start window. This will show "Command Prompt" in the search results.
  4. Right click on the Command Prompt link that was found, and click on "Run as Administrator." This will open a black window with a command prompt.
  5. At the command prompt type the following command as you can see in the window below:   regsvr32 \windows\system32\drdwg.ocx
  6. When you hit Enter after typing this command, you will see the "succeeded" message appear. Click OK on this message, then type Exit at the command prompt and hit Enter to close the command prompt window.

This is it. The shopdrawing tool will now work in the GDS v14 program. If you are bugged by the endless prompts that Windows Vista presents you with every time you do something, you can leave the User Account Control setting off. However, if you prefer the added security against user related accidents in Windows, you can go back to the User Settings window and turn the UAC setting back on. Remember that you will need to reboot your computer again if you decide to do this.
