Instructions for fixing "Read-Only" error while processing a job.

This error is typically caused by an update to the Microsoft Jet Engine drivers in your computer's operating system. You probably installed an update to another program that uses the Jet Engine data object that we use in the GDS program. The GDS program currently uses .DAT files to save information for jobs and elevations. This file extension was excluded from the newest version of the Microsoft Jet drivers. In order to tell the Jet Engine to open the .DAT files used in our software, you will need to import a registry file. Simply importing the proper file below, will immediately correct this problem. There is NO NEED to reboot your computer after closing the registry.

You can "Open" the appropriate file by clicking on the link below. When asked to "Add" the information to your Registry, click Yes. This is the simplest way to update your Registry with the "Read-Only" fix.

Follow these steps to download and import a registry file.

1.    After reading these instructions, click the appropriate link below to download the file for your version of Windows.
2.    After clicking on the correct link, a File Download window will open. The "Save this file to disk" option should already be selected. If not click on this option, and then click the OK button.
3.    Next, a Save As window will appear. You will need to click on box next to Save In so that you can click on the My Documents folder as the location to save the file.
4.    Next, click the Save button and the file will download to your C drive's My Documents folder. These registry files are small, this will only take a few seconds at the most.
5.    Now you can close or minimize your Internet browser and click on your Start button, then click on Run.
6.    In the Open line, type: regedit and then click the OK button. This will open your Registry Editor.
7.    Now click on the Registry menu at the top of the window and then click Import Registry File.
8.    Now click on the box on the Look In line and click on the My Documents folder. You should see the .reg file that you downloaded.
9.    Click on this .reg file and click the Open button. The registry is now updated with the changes in the .reg file. You can now close the Registry window and run the GDS program.
