HP 2300 and 1300 LaserJet Printer Driver Setup for GDS Software

Parallel (LPT1) Driver Setup

    If your HP printer is connected to your computer via the LPT1 printer port, follow the steps below to install the new driver for either model printer.

1.    Open the Printers window. Click the Start button, then "Printers & Faxes" -- for Windows XP; or Settings, then Printers for older versions of Windows.
2.    Click the Add a Printer icon and the new printer Wizard will open. Click Next to begin the wizard.
3.    Select Local Printer, and uncheck the Auto detect Plug & Play box, then click Next.
4.    Select LPT1 for the printer port and click Next.
5.    Select HP from the Manufacturer list, then scroll down the list on the right side to select;    
        HP LaserJet 1200 Series PCL for the 1300 model printer
        or HP LaserJet 6P for the 2300 model printer, then click Next.
6.    Click Yes to use the new driver as the default printer, then click Next.
7.    Then click Do Not Share this printer if you are not sharing it on a network, or Share this printer if other people need to print to it. 
        Then click Next.
8.    Select No to print a test page and click Next, then click Finish to complete the driver setup.
9.    Now right click on the HP 2300 or 1300 printer driver (whichever one you have) in your printers window and Delete that driver.

Now try printing to your printer with this new driver. You can either use GDS, another program, or right click on the driver, then click Properties, then click Print Test Page.


USB Driver Setup

    If your HP printer is connected to your computer via a USB port, follow the steps below to install the new driver for either model printer.

1.    Open the Printers window. Click the Start button, then "Printers & Faxes" -- for Windows XP; or Settings, then Printers for older versions of Windows.
2.    Click the Add a Printer icon and the new printer Wizard will open. Click Next to begin the wizard.
3.    Select Local Printer, and uncheck the Auto detect Plug & Play box, then click Next.
4.    Select LPT1 for the printer port and click Next.
5.    Select HP from the Manufacturer list, then scroll down the list on the right side to select;    
        HP LaserJet 1200 Series PCL for the 1300 model printer
        or HP LaserJet 6P for the 2300 model printer, then click Next.
6.    Click Yes to use the new driver as the default printer, then click Next.
7.    Then click Do Not Share this printer if you are not sharing it on a network, or Share this printer if other people need to print to it. 
        Then click Next.
8.    Select No to print a test page and click Next, then click Finish to complete the driver setup.
9.    Now right click on the HP 2300 or 1300 printer driver (whichever one you have) in your printers window and click Properties.
10.  Click on the Ports tab and look for the port that has a check box next to it. write down this port because you will need to select it in    the new driver that you just installed. Now you can close the properties window for this driver.
11.  Now right click on the new printer driver (either HP6P or 1200 Series) and click on Properties. Then click the Ports tab.
12.  Look for the port that the original printer driver was using (it should have the letters USB in it). After finding this port, put a check in the box next to it.
13.  Now click on the General tab and click the Printer Test Page button to see if you can print.
14.  If you can print, close the Properties window and then right click on the original HP driver icon (either 2300 or 1300) and click Delete to remove it. If you can't print, you might want to double check the port that the original printer driver was using and then look for it again in the new printer driver.
